Igor Drjaca's documentary is a complex and insightful examination of the modern-day tourism industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Primarily utilizing static, carefully composed photography, The Stone Speakers provides the time and space required to enable the viewer to immerse themselves the communities documented, allowing us to contemplate their history, present and future, as well as questioning the extent to which commercial tourism can fully coexist with an honest representation of the past. Of equal, if not greater, importance to the towns and attractions depicted, are the character's we are introduced to, whose resilience, resourcefulness and desire for positive change within their communities are inspiring if, occasionally, questionable.
