“Kuessipan is quiet and mesmerizing and tragic and full of hope. It is a triumph, and a privilege to spend time with.” - The Globe and Mail
Toronto International Film Festival
Adapted from Naomi Fontaine's acclaimed novel, Kuessipan tells the story of two best friends, Mikuan and Shaniss who grew up together in an Innu community in northern Quebec. The two are inseparable, and vow to always be there for one another. Their friendship is tested as they approach seventeen and they realize they may have diverging ambitions. Shaniss deals with her unstable home life and her passion fuelled relationship while Shaniss meets a white boy and falls in love, causing her to consider life beyond the reserve and what that future might look like.
