In the past ten years Patrick Wang has made four feature films which have positioned him as one of the most distinctive and critically acclaimed American directors working today. The films presented in this collection are innovative, ambitious and deeply affecting dramas which highlight the importance of compassion and understanding, illustrate the value of community, family and friendship, and celebrate art and creativity.
We’re delighted to be able to screen these film as part of this Filmmaker In Focus collection, and equally delighted, and grateful, that Patrick Wang agreed to join us for two virtual events - a discussion looking back on the making of In the Family, which will also feature many of his collaborators on that film, and an ‘in conversation’ event looking back on his career to date. Patrick Wang Biography:
Patrick Wang was born in Texas, the son of Taiwanese immigrants. He graduated from MIT with a degree in economics and music and theater arts. He has studied game theory, health policy, and income inequality at the Federal Reserve, the Harvard School for Public Health, and other organizations. In theater, he specializes in classical verse drama. His films include In the Family, The Grief of Others, and A Bread Factory. His books include Nature’s Embrace: The Poetry of Ivan Bunin, Four Shooting Scripts, Post Script: The Making of The Grief of Others, and The Monologue plays.
