Le Nid is a hugely engrossing, labyrinthine horror-thriller from director David Paradis. It sees an actor, Pierre-Luc (Pierre-Luc Brillant), enter into the basement of a house to participate in a bizarre experiment set-up by his partner, Isabelle (Isabelle Blais). Before too long though, he realizes that he’s in for far more than he'd bargained for. Paradis makes excellent, inventive use of the closed, suffocating environment his lead character is placed in, highlighting the claustrophobic setting while digging deep into his increasingly tormented protagonist's psyche. The tension ramps up relentlessly as the disturbing story unfolds, leading to a surprising and powerful conclusion.
