Four far left student radicals inspired by the Maple Spring student protests that took place in Québec in 2012, go underground creating a revolutionary cell together. Winner of the Best Canadian Film Award at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, Directors Mathieu Denis and Simon Lavoie use stylized cinematography including different aspect ratios to convey the layered world of radicalism the students have immersed themselves in.

After a tumultuous Spring and Summer full of protests and boycotting classes in opposition to tuition hikes, the government of Québec decided to freeze any increases in tuition, thus many student groups voted to go back to class in September. Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves focuses on four students who believe all those who went back to class caved and there is much more work to do in taking down oppressive capitalist systems.
