Eric Love (Jack O'Connell), 19, is locked up in prison. On his first day, he assaults another inmate and several guards. He's offered group therapy and his dad, an inmate as well, tries to talk sense into him. O'Connell is remarkable in the lead role, giving an blistering, performance as Love, while Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend excel in supporting roles. Never anything less than gripping, Starred Up is remarkable prison drama superbly directed by David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water).
