"Deceptively tranquil, flawlessly acted, formally subversive" Film Comment
Part Two finds the Bread Factory continuing to struggle as they stage the Greek play, Hecuba. Meanwhile, on the streets of Checkford an influx of visitors are creating a stir. The production of Hecuba — its casting, rehearsals, staging — forms the core of this film. At the same time we learn more about and gain even greater affection for the wonderfully endearing characters we were introduced to in Part One, and Checkford’s unpredictable nature becomes all the more surprising. It’s an exuberant, intelligent, entertaining film that ends on a memorable, wonderfully poignant note that will likely leave you reaching for the tissues.
