"The filmmaking debut of actress-turned-writer/director Yûka Eda, it might be the latest recent Japanese effort to take on female yearning and marginalisation, but this involving feature is a mature addition to the growing thematic subgenre." - Screen Daily

Mayuri, a teenage girl is constantly bullied and made to be an outcast at school by her classmates. She is often teased for only having one real friend, her silkworm named Tsumugi that she keeps in a shoebox. One day, Mayuri's world changes forever when a new girl, coincidentally also named Tsumugi arrives at school, and the two become fast friends. Quickly they become inseparable, and Tsumugi helps Mayuri to overcome her low self esteem and face the bullies, setting off a series of events that changes her life almost over night, making the transformation seem almost too good to be true...
