Claude Demers' documentary is a beautiful, poetic essay exploring the life of his birth mother. Utilizing both archival footage (much of the footage is from NFB films) and reconstructions, the director traces his mother’s life journey from a rural childhood to years in Montreal and Ontario. Presented in black and white, with footage brilliantly assembled by editor Natalie Lamoureux, who won a Canadian Screen Award for her work on the film, Demers’ film is a delicate, affectionate portrait of his biological mother as well as an exploration of his own history.
