Director Simon Lavoie's bold, provocative film, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Festival, focusses on two women, N (Monique Gosselin) and Awa (Nathalie Doummar). We are initially introduced to them as N attempts an illicit border crossing, smuggling Awa and her child with a compartment in her railcar. From there on their relationship develops in ways that are wholly unexpected. Stunningly shot in black and white, with very little dialogue, it's a spare, stark vision of a disturbing dystopian future.
