Based on the honour killing of Sadia Sheikh, Noces follows a young Pakistani woman between two worlds. Raised in Belgium and steeped in the traditions of her conservative Pakistani home, Zahira's love life is a point of contention for everyone after she discovers she is pregnant with a local boy. To prevent the news from spreading to other families, and consequentially dishonouring her family name in the new world, Zahira's family offer her an ultimatum: get an abortion or find a husband. Desparate to make her parents proud while navigating her values, Noces is a coming of age story in the diaspora capturing the duality of being raised in two cultures and expecting to choose. Ultimately, Zahira's choice is what will set her free, but will it please others?
