While there are many things that impress in Patrick Wang’s epic, humorous and hugely inventive two-parter, one of the most notable is just how full of ideas it is. There’s so much going on and so much to enjoy. It’s an incredibly rich celebration of art, artists and those who create an environment in which art can exist and flourish. It’s also about community - the importance of guidance, of friendship, love and relationships. There are satirical elements present too, as it utilizes small town politics as a forum to explore the commodification of art. Part One sees the Bread Factory, an arts hub in small town Checkford, struggling financially due to a new, monied art space opening nearby. Will Dorothea (Tyne Daly) and Greta's (Elizabeth Henry) passion and advocacy be enough to keep the doors open?
