"Marković has a particular eye for the presence of nature amid Beijing’s urban expanse, continually gravitating to splashes of greenery among the steel and concrete — a hopeful touch signifying that life can still go on, as also mirrored by the movie’s poetic title." - Screen Daily

Li, a migrant worker living in Beijing, has moved to the city in search of a new life. He works by night and sleeps by day; his roommate Ma's routine is the opposite, working days, and sleeping at night. The two share a room and a bed in "underground housing;" two ships passing in the night they often don't encounter each other at all. Directors Ivan Markovic and Linfeng Wu capture the beauty of the bustling city while also conveying its immense loneliness. Li masks such sadness by making himself "useful" and taking on mundane tasks to quiet the thoughts in his head.
